Position Description
Will interact with the Joint Polar Satellite Systems (JPSS) Program Office and Data, Products and Algorithms (DPA) organization to support NESDIS Center for Satellite and Applications (STAR) development of JPSS sensor data records (SDR). In addition, will analyze the impacts of observations from current Suomi NPP (S-NPP), MODIS, and METOP satellite systems, as well as future satellite mission (e.g., GOES-R/JPSS) observations from new and improved operational hurricane, precipitation and other operational forecasts.

Will be responsible for the system/software design engineering and development of calibration tools and interfaces, and life cycle processing, maintenance, and stewardship of the current S-NPP and planned JPSS SDR suite, including geolocation in support of the NESDIS/STAR calibration program. Duties will include technical, scientific, and research support of STAR and technical and scientific interaction with JPSS and NASA on STAR's behalf.

Will coordinate and integrate the existing and developing codes that are relevant to the ATMS, CrIS, OMPS, GOES-R Advanced Baseline Imager (ABI), and/or VIIRS SDR calibration and geolocation. Will be a member of the JPSS SDR team on STAR's behalf and work closely with the JPSS DPA, GOES-R Algorithm Working Group, as well as ground system segment and JPSS operational processing system such as the Algorithm Development Library (ADL) and the Interface Data Processing Segment (IDPS).

Required Skills
3 - 8 years of experience in satellite sensor calibration or related field. Experience with radiometric calibration; satellite instrument and operation; S-NPP, MODIS, JPSS, METOP, and GOES-R system; and radiative transfer theory and software. Experience using FORTRAN, IDL, C/C++, and Matlab.

Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident and be able to pass a background investigation to obtain a security badge to enter the applicable government facility.

PhD in Physical Science, Engineering, related discipline, or equivalent.
